Dark-girly Harajuku style usually piles on the details. This look wins by holding back. An oversized striped sweater dress with a cross-and-bow motif does almost all the work, worn over black lace-up thigh-high platform boots and very little else.
It is a lesson in proportion. The sweater is roomy and long enough to read as a dress, so the thigh-high boots close the gap and keep the leg line long instead of chopped. Black and white only, one graphic, one silhouette. The restraint is what makes it feel current rather than costumey, which is increasingly where Tokyo street style is heading.
To build it, let the oversized top set the scale and keep the footwear tall and simple. If the top is loud, the boots should be quiet, and vice versa.
For roomy knit pieces and dark-girly staples, Belchic's new arrivals and Palemo's NOEMIE drop are both worth a browse.
