Fox Ears and a Kimono Cape: Harajuku's Wa-Gothic Street Look
A floral kimono cape, kitsune fox ears, rocking-horse shoes and a red fur collar make this a standout wa-gothic look on the Harajuku street this season.

When Japanese tradition meets gothic drama, you get something like this. A red-and-gold floral kimono cape, a plush fur collar, black-and-white striped gloves, and a pair of kitsune fox ears add up to a full wa-gothic statement on the Harajuku street.

Wa-gothic (and its cousin wa-lolita) build looks around traditional Japanese elements, then push them somewhere darker and stranger. The fox ears reference the kitsune of Japanese folklore, the shape borrows from the kimono, and the rocking-horse platform shoes drag the whole thing straight into lolita fashion territory.

To try a softer version, start with one traditional print, cape or wide sleeve, then add a single folkloric accent rather than a whole costume. The point is suggestion, not cosplay.
